Can I hire a handyman service to install my lights?
No. Not many homeowners realize that it is illegal to hire an unlicensed contractor to change their light fixtures. Only a homeowner of a (single unit) or a licensed electrician working under the supervision of a master electrician is able to change out lights (like for like). If you are a semi-attached homeowner, it is against the law to do any of your own electrical work. If you hire your buddy to any electrical work in your home (including switching out the fixtures), as a homeowner, you are liable.
